The concept and idea of the collection is to think about how to turn thrown out basic things, we use daily, into wearable pieces of wardrobe. I want to use, as materials, things that people don’t even notice, when they are throwing them away, such as dish towels, shoe laces, socks, scarves, rugs, cosmetic bags, pencil cases, etc. My idea is to show that every tiny thing can be turned into something else and, therefore, extend the lifespan instead of ending up in a landfill. Moreover, represents that upcycled fashion not only reduces waste but also celebrates creativity and individuality.
As I once heard from one of my mentors «Fashion is, by definition, a very polluting and toxic industry». I fully agree with that, but decided to keep my focus on how personally, as an artist, I can minimise the impact in my projects and make my collections as sustainable as possible. My favourite concept is upcycling and working with objects that have already consumed labor, energy, all the production processes for their creation, with all the impact of it. Therefore, I use fashion objects, textile objects, made by others, as we use moodboards of other artists to inspire ourselves.
